London City Airport
Air Traffic Control Tower Enabling Works

Project Description:
As part of the ambitious airport expansion plans, London City Airport intend to build the UKs first digital air traffic control tower. As part of the enabling works, a culvert that runs the length of the airport was identified as the best route for electrical installation but required environmental assessment at feasibility stage.

Airtech was commissioned by BP Installations to conduct the initial survey of the culvert. An asbestos refurbishment survey was delivered by Airtech that identified extensive asbestos contamination in the form of insulation debris.

Airtech managed the subsequent asbestos removal of the contamination through the following stages:
• Preparation of a detail asbestos removal specification
• Tendering of planned works, using Airtech approved licensed asbestos removal contractors (LARCs)
• Escorted site visits for tenderers and subsequent tender evaluations
• Full site project management and air monitoring
• Confined space management and site safety management

Jumeirah Carlton Tower Hotel, Knightsbridge
Commercial Asbestos Survey

Project Description:
The Jumeirah Carlton Tower hotel was built in 1961 and offers 5 star accommodation with award winning restaurants, elegant spas and an indulgent spa in the heart of Knightsbridge, London. As part of a significant redevelopment of the hotel, the hotel owners required a wide range of surveys of the building whilst still operating as a 5 star London hotel..

Our Involvement:
Airtech was commissioned by the Jumeirah Carlton Tower hotel to conduct the asbestos refurbishment survey of all areas of the building that were planned for redevelopment. An asbestos refurbishment survey was conducted by Airtech in several phases. The initial phase allowed for a limited survey of areas due to the requirement of the hotel to continue to operate as a hotel and then a second phase to complete areas not previously accessed. We worked closely with the hotel maintenance team to ensure that the operations of the hotel weren’t affected. This required careful planning and communication with all stakeholders. The initial survey report was used by the cost consultants to identify costs for the asbestos removal phase planned for delivery by the main contractor and the second phase offered confirmation of the location and extent of asbestos containing materials.
